The Mayer lab was founded in 1984 at the University of Washington. Participation in the group has been an integral part in the personal and professional development of over 200 undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral associates, visiting scientists, and more.

Since its move to Yale about ten years ago, the group has continued to be a staple in the inorganic chemistry community, and its scientific focus has expanded from molecular to materials chemistry.

In October 2025, the current members of the Mayer lab hosted a special symposium and reunion event. It was an opportunity to connect and reconnect with fellow Mayer lab alumni across both the University of Washington and Yale, and to hear some exciting science — past and present. The day consisted of networking opportunities, various activities, and presentations. 

We would like to thank everyone who joined us and helped make the reunion a memorable celebration of the Mayer lab community. It was a pleasure to reconnect with alumni, current members, and friends while celebrating over 40 years of scientific discovery, mentorship, and collaboration. We look forward to staying connected for years to come.
